Do you, like me, tend to make your coffee but then get busy with all sorts of things and end up with a cold cup of coffee (or tea) most of the time? Using an insulated coffee mug is the best solution for this, and it's great for takeaway coffees too to avoid disposable coffee cups.
There are a lot of coffee mugs on the market now all claiming to be sustainable, however some of them are made with materials that re not exactly eco-friendly, so choosing a stainless steel one with bamboo casing is a much better and sustainable option.

4. Cotton Bread Bag
Cotton bags maintain the right bread’s moisture levels: too much moisture loss, through absorption by paper bags for example, or exposure to too much air in a bread tin, causes the bread to dry out.
This is what turns a crispy crust soft. And these bags can also be used to store fruit and vegetables.

5. Cellulose Kitchen Sponge
One thing I particularly enjoy is when eco-friendly products are as similar in look and functionality as plastic ones. Just like the yellow, soft sponges I discovered lately, that are made of cellulose.
Cellulose is an organic compound that makes up the walls of plants. Cellulose fibres are amazing biodegradable materials as they are made with plant based materials – such as cotton and wood pulp among others. So they can simply breakdown in your compost bin without creating any pollution or waste.

Did you know bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet, and can grow 3 feet in height in just 24 hours if the weather conditions are appropriate? Why choose single use, plastic ear sticks when we can get them made with compostable materials that won't end up in a landfill?
Biodegradable earbuds made with bamboo and cotton are the way to go, just make sure to add them to your compost or organic waste bin, and not throw them into the general waste.

8. Kitchen Brush with Coconut Round Head
This brush has a head made with coconut fibre (also called coir) that is incredibly tough, but also really gentle on surfaces. This makes it perfect to clean tough food sticking to pans – burnt food anyone or is it just me?

10. Bamboo Cutlery Set
As a family on a low-waste path we love using reusables for our family outings, be it cotton beach bags, food wraps for sandwiches or bamboo cutlery.
We used to bring regular cutlery out, but we have swapped to bamboo one as it's much lighter and handy, and can also be brought on planes safely, plus when they come in cotton pouches that keeps them neatly together.

11. Safety Razor
How do you use a safety razor? The best thing to do before shaving is to have a hot shower, this will soften your skin, open up your pores helping a much smoother shave, and always use a shaving soap or cream when shaving, it will dramatically reduce the risk of cuts and irritation to the skin.

12. Bamboo Toilet Brush
Even our toilets need cleaning, although most of us prefer not to talk about it. If you have ever stepped into any bathroom in pretty much any country in the world, you probably noticed that every single one will have a toilet brush in it.
However, the vast majority of these brushes are made of plastic, and in fact a mixture of plastic materials, so once they are all used up, they can’t really be recycled, so a great solution to a plastic toilet brush is to choose one made with sustainable materials, such as wood or bamboo.

13. Bamboo Makeup Remover Pad
If you want to stop using single use makeup pads, choose some made of bamboo fibre and cotton, particularly good for removing mascara and lipsticks, while the other side is a softer velour type of fabric, which makes it particularly soft and ideal for the eye area.

14. Pot Scrubber
This little pot scrubber is the best compostable alternative to a tough brillo sponge, with its plant-based bristles it can get all the dirt off your pans.
I also use it to scrub my grill and BBQ (as well as dirty spatulas) and we have a spare one to scrape mud off our boots during the winter months. Can’t beat it!

16. Bottle Cleaning Brush
Some of the toughest things to clean are vases and long thin glasses, as it’s so hard to reach every spot and make sure to give them a good clean. This is bottle brush can reach every bacteria trying to hide at the bottom of your water bottles or coffee mug.

17. Bamboo Straws
Maybe one of the most emblematic images when it comes to the terrible consequences of plastic pollution is a video by marine biologist Christine Figgener, who in 2015 recorder removing a plastic straw from a sea turtle’s nose.
That video sparked a global outrage and it was the catalyst for petitions all over the world to ban plastic straws and pressure big corporations such as Starbucks and MacDonald among others to stop distributing billions of them.
There are so many eco-friendly ways of still enjoying sipping your favourite drink on the beach: reusable straws are a super easy swap that can actually eliminate this issue entirely by using long lasting materials such as bamboo, metal or glass.

18. Reusable Bamboo Water Bottle
Plastic bottles are a serious issue as they are literally everywhere, sold globally to millions of people. Convenience is one of the main issues I think, together with lack of planning, as it’s so easy to simply buy drinks in plastic from any corner shop or supermarket.

25. Loofah Kitchen Sponge
Cleaning products are a massive source of plastic pollution in every UK household, with plastic sponges and scourers constantly being bought and ending up in the bin way too frequently.
But there are a lot of eco-friendly solutions, such as heavy duty kitchen sponges made with plant-derived materials that are fully compostable like this one with the bottom layer made of biodegradable cellulose, of which 70% is wood pulp and 30% cotton pulp.

28. Menstrual Cups
When it comes to silicone menstrual cups, it is very important to choose the right size for you. Some women struggle with discomfort when using them, this is usually caused by the cups being wrongly inserted. If you are looking for the ultimate eco-friendly multi-purpose sponge, here it is!
Konjac sponges are basically a potato from the Konnyaku plant, an Asian plant that grows at high altitudes. It’s made 97% of water, vitamins and natural minerals, as well as being naturally alkaline.
All these properties give it a gentle and soft texture, and additive-free composition. When Japanese farmers first started using Konjac sponges, centuries ago, their main use was to bathe their babies because they were so soft but they are also great as facial exfoliators due to their super soft texture.

Plastic tape. It is everywhere, from schools to packages, from supermarket supplies to boxes in the mail. Yes we all know it is a terribly polluting single-use type of plastic, that can't be recycled at all - and even worse, when we don't remove it from cardboards, these can't be recycled either. So what's the solution? Kraft paper tape!
Made with Kraft paper with solvent-based self-adhesive side, it can be recycled together with all the package it comes with..yes, it can go straight into the recycling bin. Natural deodorants come in different shapes or forms, and one I really like is deodorant creams. They are very soft (or can be softened in the palm of your hand before applying) so there is no risk of abrasion to the skin when applying them.

66. Razor Blades
One important thing to keep in mind for a truly sustainable shaving routine is to also make sure the razor blades you use are plastic free, alongside the razor.
Choosing ones that are entirely made of stainless steel and therefore can be fully recycled, as well as wrapped in paper rather than plastic film is the way to go. And once you are done using them, do not add them to the recycling bin, keep them all safely together and hand them in at your local recycling centre so that nobody will get hurt while processing them.

68. Plastic Free Body Wash
When it comes to daily routines, showers are probably one of the biggest generators of waste. Just think about how many plastic bottles of shower gel a family of 4 can go through in a month, knowing that only 9% of plastic is usually recycled globally.
If you prefer liquid body wash rather than a soap bar, just make sure the product you choose comes in recycled glass bottles and aluminium caps, which means they can be recycled again or even better, repurposed for many other uses.

One of the thing about zero waste packaging and product containers is that it also often be used for other purposes. Beauty products are massively packed in plastic, so every time I can manage to find al alternative in a glass bottle I am always doing a victory dance.

Did you know that the unique design of soaps on rope goes back to the late 1940s, and was created by an English company?
The reason they came up with this style was purely functional, as it was during war times and they wanted to create a soap that would last longer, so adding a cotton rope would prevent it from falling and breaking, as well as melting away too quickly.

72. Natural Body Scrub
Natural body scrubs are a great solution for an eco-friendly exfoliation, while avoiding microbeads or microplastics.
You can make sugar body scrub at home using brown sugar and coconut oil, but if you want something fancier and richer in essential oils packed with beneficial properties for the skin, choosing a natural body scrub in a metal container is a great plastic-free solution.

75. Soapnuts
These little berry shells grow on the Soap Berry tree in the Himalayas and they naturally contains a cleaning agent that works like detergent, called saponin. Saponin is amazing at penetrating the fibres of clothes, lifting stains from the fabric that is then rinsed away.

Do you know that making your own laundry detergent is really easy?

84. Sustainable Eye Shadow
If you are looking for eyeshadow ideas, in particular natural eyeshadow, then some of the things to keep in mind when looking for a truly eco-friendly makeup are: cruelty free and vegan, ideally free from sls and palm oil, especially if not from certified sustainable sources.

90. Plastic Free Hand Wash
Most of our bathrooms very often have something in common: a bottle of liquid handwash by the side of the sink. But another communality is that they are usually packed in plastic bottles.
However, there are some great exceptions for those who prefer liquid soap to solid bars, such as these lovely scented liquid soaps. They do not contain any bad chemical, colours or scents.

91. Sun Screen
The main difference between chemical and mineral sunscreens can be found in their ingredient lists. The active ingredients in chemical sunscreens are effective because they absorb the sun’s UV rays. However, before these chemicals can offer any UV protection, the skin has to absorb them.
A mineral sunscreen uses minerals as its active ingredients. The minerals most often used are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Mineral sunscreens work in a completely different way than chemical sunscreens. Instead of penetrating the skin and offering protection by dissipating UV rays, they simply sit on top of the skin and reflect UV rays away from the body.

A research by the eco-magazine Ethical consumer has found that major toilet paper brands are using less and less recycled paper to produce it, which means they are instead using virgin paper. The problem with that is obviously a high rate of deforestation for a product that we literally use just a few seconds before flushing it away.

UK Brand Iron and Velvet have different soluble sachets for different uses, as well as a variety of anti-bacterial cleaning solutions and products to clean windows, for floor cleaning, to clean ovens and surfaces and even kitchen and bathroom cleaning mixed products.

98. Large Kitchen Sponge
Cellulose large yellow sponges are particularly suited to wipe counters and clean sinks, tiles, bathtub and mirrors and delicate surfaces in general.

99. Bamboo Interdental Brushes
A great alternative to biodegradable dental floss and the environmentally friendly version of tepe plastic dental brushes, these eco friendly floss sticks are made with a bamboo handle and a wire made with stainless steel, with the head of the flossing brush that can be simply snapped after use and separated by the compostable handle.
They are also particularly recommended for those who have gaps between teeth wider than what a biodegradable floss could easily clean, and they are available in sizes from 0.4mm upwards.
